Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the move to detain the elderly politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This included seeking to disable his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could "allow for a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a document approving the detention, the judge said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his flight.
