Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
